First Alert Forecast: dry days ahead, massive river flooding continues

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) –

The remnants of Florence are now over New England and the National Hurricane Center has discontinued advisories. Late tonight a front will sweep out the last of the tropical moisture over southeast NC, bringing some much needed high pressure and by comparison, “good weather”.

TUESDAY FORECAST DETAILS: Plenty of dry intervals can be expected, but lingering scattered showers and storms will be possible as some of the last moisture associated locally with Florence meanders. Clouds will vary, but temperatures will likely grow from the mid 70s to the mid or upper 80s amid south breezes.

EXTENDED FORECAST: High pressure will move in by the middle of the week, which means plenty of sunshine and temperatures in the middle and upper 80s during the day, and 70s at night. This will no doubt aide crews working to restore services and clean up following the storm. Widespread lowland flooding will continue to be unavoidable; some spots that have never flooded will flood especially along rivers and estuaries. ELSEWHERE IN THE TROPICS:Tropical Depression Joyce does not pose a threat to the Carolinas. Joyce will curve to the northeast out in the open Atlantic. Elsewhere any tropical development is unlikely in the Atlantic over the next 5 days.
