NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) –

All lanes of U.S. 421 were closed near the county line between New Hanover and Pender counties Thursday morning due to flooding, according to the NCDOT.

US 421 was part of a route that officials announced as a route safely back to Wilmington earlier this week before announcing it should be used primarily for emergency vehicles and first responders.

On Thursday, the State Highway Patrol announced an alternative route to Wilmington:

  • I-40 East to Exit 373
  • Take a Left Turn onto NC 24 East
  • Travel on NC 24 East to Jacksonville
  • In Jacksonville, get on US 17 South to Wilmington
