FEMA funds spent in our area since Hurricane Florence

SOUTHEASTERN NC (WWAY) — Hurricane Florence survivors in North Carolina have received more than $1.2 billion in federal funding, according to FEMA.

That number includes $593 million in FEMA flood insurance payments on 15,000 claims, $128 million in grants for temporary rental assistance, basic home repairs, and other needs not covered by insurance for 34,500 households and $395 million in Small Business Administration disaster loans for 9,800 homeowners, renters and businesses.

Here’s how those numbers break down in our area.

New Hanover County at a glance:

Since the federal disaster declaration for Hurricane Florence, New Hanover County residents and local governments have been approved for about $104 million in disaster funds:

• $11.9 million in FEMA grants have gone to 4,438 homeowners and renters.
• 1,552 FEMA flood insurance claims have been filed. $31.1 million in claims have been paid.
• More than $53.5 million in U.S. Small Business Administration disaster loans have been approved for 1,548 homeowners and businesses.
• FEMA has provided about $7.6 million to the state to help local governments in New Hanover County with Hurricane Florence-related expenses.
• New Hanover County has been approved for FEMA Direct Temporary Housing Assistance. Travel trailers and manufactured housing units have been provided for 15 families.
• The State Housing Recovery Center for New Hanover County is located at 1241 Military Cutoff Road, in Wilmington and is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Pender County at a glance

Since the federal disaster declaration for Hurricane Florence, Pender County residents and local governments have been approved for about $128 million in disaster funds.

• $16.9 million in FEMA grants have gone to 2,676 homeowners and renters.
• 1,277 FEMA flood insurance claims have been filed. $62 million in claims have been paid.
• Nearly $46.7 million in U.S. Small Business Administration disaster loans have been approved for 815 homeowners and businesses.
• FEMA has provided more than $3.3 million to the state to help local governments in Pender County with Hurricane Florence-related expenses.
• Pender County has been approved for FEMA Direct Temporary Housing Assistance. Travel trailers and manufactured housing units have been provided for 228 families.
• The State Housing Recovery Center for Pender County is located at the Shiloh Columbia Volunteer Fire, 19170 U.S. Hwy 421, in Willard and is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Brunswick County at a glance

Since the federal disaster declaration for Hurricane Florence, Brunswick County residents and local governments have been approved for about $56 million in disaster funds:

• More than $7.2 million in FEMA grants have gone to 1,908 homeowners and renters.
• 1,063 FEMA flood insurance claims have been filed. $22.7 million in claims have been paid.
• Nearly $26.2 million in U.S. Small Business Administration disaster loans have been approved for 667 homeowners and businesses.
• FEMA has provided nearly $372,000 to the state to help local governments in Brunswick County with Hurricane Florence-related expenses.
• Brunswick County has been approved for FEMA Direct Temporary Housing Assistance. Travel trailers and manufactured housing units have been provided for 26 families.

Columbus County at a glance

Since the federal disaster declaration for Hurricane Florence, Columbus County residents have been approved for about $26 million in disaster funds:

• Nearly $6 million in FEMA grants have gone to 1,785 homeowners and renters.
• 298 FEMA flood insurance claims have been filed. $12.9 million in claims have been paid.
• More than $7.7 million in U.S. Small Business Administration disaster loans have been approved for 250 homeowners and businesses.
• Columbus County has been approved for FEMA Direct Temporary Housing Assistance. Travel trailers and manufactured housing have been provided for 20 families.

Bladen County at a glance

Since the federal disaster declaration for Hurricane Florence, Bladen County residents have been approved for about $12 million in disaster funds:

• More than $3.3 million in FEMA grants have gone to 1,038 homeowners and renters.
• 92 FEMA flood insurance claims have been filed. $4.7 million in claims have been paid.
• Nearly $4.1 million in U.S. Small Business Administration disaster loans have been approved for 149 homeowners and businesses.
• Bladen County has been approved for FEMA Direct Temporary Housing Assistance. Travel trailers and manufactured housing units have been provided for four families.
