Timeline: Tornado watch until 8 p.m. for much of Central Texas

AUSTIN, Texas — Scattered showers and storms will be possible Saturday, a few of which could turn strong or severe, but they aren’t expected to be as widespread as previously thought.
A tornado watch has been issued for a majority of Central Texas until 8 p.m. on Saturday.

The Storm Prediction Center has highlighted Central Texas and the KVUE viewing area in either a “slight” risk – two out of five risk – or an “enhanced” risk – three out of five risk – for severe weather. That includes the threat of large hail, damaging winds and isolated tornadoes.

Scattered storms will then shift closer to the Interstate 35 corridor early in the afternoon on Saturday, but a bulk of the thunderstorm activity will stay north of the area.

Rain chances will be best for areas east of IH-35 in the afternoon to early evening with the possibility of an isolated strong to severe storm.

Showers and storms could linger over parts of the area through the evening hours, but a majority of the rain possible today should move out of the area.

Widespread rain is not as much of a concern for Saturday anymore as the bulk of the rain will stay north of the area. Expect a quarter of an inch to an inch across Central Texas over the next week with some localized areas seeing more.
