Trees planted at T.B. Lilly Park to replace ones lost during hurricane

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Last year, Hurricane Florence destroyed many trees in the Thomas B. Lilly Park in Wilmington. However, volunteers came out to fix that!

Alliance for Cape Fear Trees Chair Connie Parker says volunteers planted 17 trees along Burnt Mill Creek.

She says several residents, members of the Wilmington Tree Commission, and the Plastic Ocean Project volunteered to help the area recover.

Parker says WHQR Public Radio paid for the trees through their year-end pledge drive.

“We’re just thankful for people who want to do this, and people who want to come help us plant,” Parker said. “We’ve got three others coming within the planting season this year.”

She adds volunteers are planting more trees this year at both Wallace and Mary Bridgers parks along Brunt Mill Creek.
