Deputy accused of stealing from Dallas store after tornado
DALLAS (AP) — A Texas sheriff’s deputy accused of stealing items from a Home Depot he was guarding after it was destroyed by a tornado last month has been charged with theft.
The Dallas County sheriff’s office said Joseph Bobadilla was arrested Thursday. He was being held in the Dallas County jail Thursday afternoon on $500 bond. Jail records didn’t list an attorney for him.
The sheriff’s office said 25-year-old Bobadilla had been working an off-duty job guarding the Dallas store following the Oct. 20 tornado. The sheriff’s office said Home Depot’s corporate office notified the office that Bobadilla was involved in the theft of merchandise.
The sheriff’s office said Bobadilla took items, then exchanged them at another location for store credit. He then allegedly bought items with the store credit.
