Level 1 risk of severe weather on Thursday follows heavy showers on Wednesday
Wednesday was not only hot and muggy, it was also very wet toward the evening. At least one of those things will continue on Thursday.
Raleigh and other parts of central North Carolina were hit by some showers on Wednesday, some of them heavy at times. The rain came after a very warm day
“RDU had the first measurable rain in 10 days, five-hundreds of an inch of rain, and more to come (Thursday),” meteorologist Mike Maze said.
With a cold front moving through, our best chances for rain will be during the afternoon, when it’s warmest. As a result, a level 1 threat for severe weather is in place with the chance for some heavy rain and possible flooding in places like Raleigh, Fayetteville and neighboring areas.
“It is warm, it is muggy and it’s going to stay that way through the day tomorrow,” Maze said. “There’s a lot of moisture in the atmosphere, so if you noticed big raindrops (Wednesday) with the thunderstorms, that’s to be repeated (Thursday).”
You’re likely to see some rain during the morning commute but the bulk will come in the afternoon and evening, possibly as late as Thursday night.
“With the front moving through during the maximum heating of the day, we’ll really see the skies light up with showers and thunderstorms,” Maze said.
One of the good things is it won’t be quite as hot as Wednesday. Thursday’s highs will be in the low to mid 80s, a trend that will continue well into next week. As the chance of showers continues, temps could get into the upper 70s by Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.
For the next 7 days there will be some chance of rain.
