Carolina Hurricanes resume on-ice workouts at PNC Arena
Raleigh, N.C. — The Carolina Hurricanes return to the ice for workouts Monday with some strict coronavirus policies in place.
The NHL suspended its season in March.
At 10:30 a.m., the team will begin two weeks of on-ice workouts at PNC Arena. All sessions will be closed to the public.
Don Waddell, president and general manager of the team, said he and Coach Rod Brind-Amour will talk with the team before practice to stress the importance of social distancing and smart choices off the ice.
Waddell said all players will be tested at least every other day for COVID-19.
An on-site hygienist will perform daily temperature checks, and everyone – including staff – will wear masks.
Around the NHL, Phase 3 of a return-to-play plan will feature two weeks of on-ice workouts at each team’s home facility.
The Canes will travel July 26 to Toronto, the Eastern Conference “hub,” where they will train for another five days and play an exhibition game.
The 2019-20 season resumes when Carolina opens its best-of-five qualifying series against the New York Rangers on Aug. 1. Winners advance to a modified playoff bracket with the chance to play for the Stanley Cup.
Game times and broadcast information will be released at a later date. Click here to see the Hurricanes’ roster.
