After Hurricane Hanna: Here's what to know about access to Corpus Christi area beaches

Due to damage and cleanup efforts following Hurricane Hanna, Nueces County and Corpus Christi will continue to restrict vehicular access to Bay and Gulf Beaches until Saturday, August 1 at 6 a.m.

Vehicular restrictions include golf carts and all-terrain vehicles.

How to access Corpus Christi area beaches

North Beach

The beach is open to pedestrian foot traffic, but all COVID-19 rules are in effect until August 1 at 6 a.m.. Beach goers should be cautious of crews working alone the boardwalk, sidewalk and areas along the beach.

Sand from the beach that was displaced onto the road is being stockpiled by City crews at the parking lot along North Shoreline Boulevard between Bridgeport Avenue and Coastal Avenue, while Parks and Recreation works with the Texas General Land Office to place sand back onto the beach, a news release from the city said.

McGee Beach

The beach opened to pedestrian foot traffic on Tuesday, but all COVID-19 rules are in effect until August 1. Lifeguards will be provided via mobile unit and Parks and Recreation will continue to clean the beach and remove debris, the news release said.

Gulf Beaches

Beginning Tuesday, the Windward Parking Lot opened to vehicle and pedestrian foot traffic. Access Road 3A will remain closed to vehicular traffic. Beach Operations will continue to clean the beach.

The Packery Channel parking lot opened to allow fisherman, surfers, and pedestrians to access the jetty.

Whitecap Boulevard will remain closed to all pedestrians in order to complete maintenance resulting from Hurricane Hanna, the release said. Whitecap Boulevard will reopen to pedestrian foot traffic on Wednesday.

Zahn Road, Newport Pass Road, Access Road Number 3 and Access Road number 2 beach accesses will remain closed to vehicular access until further notice. The beaches will be open to pedestrian foot traffic, but sections may be closed for  maintenance.
