Tilman Fertitta donates $1M to help Landry's employees affected by Hurricane Laura

As Louisiana faces a long, grueling recovery in the wake of Hurricane Laura, Houston’s Tilman Fertitta is coming to the aid of his Lake Charles, LA, employees.

Fertitta has donated $1 million to the Landry’s Employees of Lake Charles Relief Fund, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, according to a Wednesday release.

The funds will aid the area staff of Landry’s Inc. affected by the hurricane. Landry’s — Fertitta’s restaurant, hospitality, gaming and entertainment company — owns and operates the Golden Nugget Hotel and Casino concept including Golden Nugget Lake Charles.

“Our hearts and prayers go out to all those affected by this terrible storm,” Fertitta said in the release. “The Lake Charles community is one of our homes. We are eager to help our neighbors and team members throughout southern Louisiana as they face the long road to recovery in rebuilding.”

Although Golden Nugget Lake Charles remains temporarily closed due to the damage it received from Hurricane Laura, it is housing first responders and critical infrastructure workers including CenterPoint Energy, Entergy, Kroger, state fire marshals and state police to help expedite the community’s restoration efforts.
