Tropical Depression 22 expected to form into Tropical Storm Alpha

And here comes another storm. 

The 22nd storm of the 2020 hurricane season is expected to strengthen into a tropical storm while moving slowly over the western Gulf of Mexico during the next several days, according to a National Hurricane Center advisory on Thursday.

If it turns into a tropical storm, it would be known as Tropical Storm Alpha.

The storm is in the early stages and it’s unclear what areas could see direct wind, storm surges and rainfall impacts from the system.

Currently Tropical Depression 22 is 235 miles east of Tampico, Mexico and 330 miles southeast of the Rio Grande. The storm’s maximum sustained winds on Thursday night were 35 mph and the storm was moving at 3 mph. 

A slow northeastward motion is expected through early Saturday with a slow turn toward the north and then the west.
