As of 5 a.m., there are Tropical Storm and Hurricane Watches in effect along the Texas Coast.
Sustained winds of 60 mph have been recorded, and the storm could strengthen to a Category 1 hurricane by Saturday.
Beta is expected to move westward through the Gulf of Mexico, threatening the Texas coast.
NHC says swells are expected to increase and reach the Texas coast by the weekend. These swells can cause life-threatening conditions.
