On Tuesday, Port Aransas officials announced the beach will be closed to vehicular traffic from 8 p.m. Thursday to 9 a.m. Saturday due to possible flooding from Hurricane Delta.

Delta, a Category 2 storm with 100 mph winds, made landfall on Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula on Wednesday morning and is expected to grow in size as it approaches the northern Gulf Coast over the next few days, according to the National Hurricane Center.

As it moves into the Gulf of Mexico, Delta will likely strengthen into a major hurricane before turning north toward the Louisiana coast, according to the National Hurricane Center.

The National Hurricane Center issued a hurricane watch for parts of the Gulf Coast, and tropical storm watches for Houston, the Galveston Bay, New Orleans, Lake Pontchartrain, and Lake Maurepas.
