BOILING SPRING LAKES, NC (WWAY)–Stephanie Bodmer and her husband Robert Gosnell have brought an iconic landmark in Brunswick County back to life. The couple purchased the Boiling Spring Lakes Motel in December of 2018.

In September of 2018, the motel was flooded with over a foot of water in Hurricane Florence. Nearly two years later the ‘Mom and Pop’ motel has opened their doors, something Bodmer’s late father would be proud of.

“He always asked me about the motel when he would visit,” Bodmer says. “He would say ‘find out who owns it, I would like to buy it, find out who owns it’. Unfortunately daddy died and I always had that in my mind. So, when I received an inheritance my husband and I bought the motel and restored it.”

The six-room motel had to be completed renovated from top to bottom, but now it’s as welcoming as any spot in the state. Boiling Spring Lakes town officials think it will be a hit and only help the surrounding community.

“It can bring people into the city and people coming in to build houses they can stay here in this nice motel,” says Boiling Spring Lakes Mayor Craig Caster. “People going through that need a place to stay can’t find a better place than this little motel right here.”

Members of the towns Board of Commissioner says it allows people to enjoy what the area has to offer without having to leave it.

“Boiling Spring Lakes is now a destination for so many people, this allows them a great way to experience our city over a long weekend,” says Boiling Spring Lakes Commissioner Tom Guzulaitis. “you know they can hit the beaches and still enjoy our natural resources right here in town.”

The motel was set to have a grand opening this fall, but covid-19 had other plans. So, as they continue to do, Bodmer and her husband put those funds together something bigger than themselves.

“In September we realized that a big grand opening was just not a good idea,” says Bodmer. “So, we decided to use that money that we had ear marked and buy presents for children in the area.”

The Boiling Spring Lakes Motel is now open for business and taking reservations. For more information on the motel you can visit their Facebook page.
