The National Weather Service announced a disturbance weather system in the Gulf of Mexico Thursday.

The storm, named Invest 91L for the time being by the agency, had winds between 30-35 mph Friday. The NWS said the disturbance has a 60% chance of development to turning into a tropical storm. Heavy rain and the potential for flooding in southeast Texas and Louisiana are forecast through Saturday.

Earlier this week, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Climate Prediction Center predicted another above-normal hurricane season, albeit one that experts don’t anticipate being as historic as the activity seen in 2020.
