City of Corpus Christi to distribute free sandbags in preparation for hurricane season

Free sandbags will soon be distributed to residents in four areas of Corpus Christi in preparation for hurricane season, which began June 1.

City crews will distribute a totals of 12,000 sandbags, with residents receiving up to seven per vehicle, a news release from the city said.

Drivers should clear an area in the trunk or bed of their vehicle and must remain inside their cars while the sandbags are being loaded.

The first event will be Saturday, June 12 from 8 a.m. to noon at West Guth Park. 

The second event will be Sunday, June 13 from 8 a.m. to noon at the J.C. Elliot Transfer Station at 7001 Ayers St.

Military volunteers from NAS Corpus Christi will help distribute sandbags on Saturday, June 19 from 8 a.m. to noon at Waldron Field located at 3746 Waldron Road and the City Service Center on Citivan at 5352 Ayers.
