Tropical Storm Pamela to strengthen into major hurricane, bring rain to San Antonio area
San Antonio could see heavy rain with a risk for flooding, forecasters say.
According to the National Hurricane Center, Tropical Storm Pamela will likely gain strength and turn into a major hurricane before hitting land in Mexico late Wednesday.
The storm is forecast to move through Texas on Thursday. As it weakens, it’s expected to combine with moisture from the Gulf of Mexico, bringing rain into the San Antonio area.
Forecasters say there is a threat of heavy rain, but exactly what areas will see precipitation remains uncertain at this point because the storm could shift.
The National Weather Service shows a 70 percent chance of rain.
According to Phil Klotzbach, a Research Scientist in the Department of Atmospheric Science at Colorado State University, “Pamela is the first eastern North Pacific named storm formation since Olaf formed on September 8.”
