CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Sunday:
Sunshine will be abundant this afternoon as highs peak in the low-70s. Wind will become breezy at times in the afternoon with gusts near 20 mph. This may irritate your allergy a little more than normal with the warmer weather and a light wind, so be sure to take your allergy medicine!
Overnight, lows will fall to the upper 30s and lower 40s across the region. The kiddos may need a light jacket at the bus stop Monday morning.
We’ll kick off the work week with a mix of sunshine and clouds! Highs will reach the low-mid 70s, so a bit warmer than Sunday. Clouds will increase during the afternoon.
This will be a sign of what’s to come as the next storm system approaches the Carolinas. Monday afternoon will stay dry, but you may notice a touch of additional humidity.
Tuesday – Thursday:
Unsettled weather arrives in the Charlotte region by Tuesday afternoon. Right now, it looks like the main threat Tuesday will be heavy rain and minor flooding. There’s a bit of uncertainty about whether Tuesday’s rain could stabilize our atmosphere enough to lower the risk for storms.
After the first round of rain and storms, the potential ramps back up Wednesday afternoon through Thursday morning. We still need a few days to work out the details, but our primary threat with this second round looks to be gusty wind in excess of 60 mph. This could produce minor wind damage.
It’s important to note that we are in the spring severe weather season. This will be the third week in a row with rain and storms midweek. Unfortunately, both of our previous systems have spawned at least one confirmed tornado here locally. Thankfully, no injuries have been reported from either system.
The best thing you can do now is stay weather aware. The timing and intensity of this storm system is subject to change. Keep your eyes peeled for any updates!
