Tonight:
Flood Advisory in effect tonight for several parts of the area. Seek higher ground if you live near a small stream prone to flooding during a heavy rain storm. Excessive rainfall is likely to impact the area tonight and again on Sunday.
More than two inches of rainfall fell within a matter of three hours in the foothills, which prompted a Flood Advisory for Lincoln, Catawba, Burke, Cleveland, Gaston as well Mecklenburg County.
The ongoing downpours may cause flash flooding along streets and impact small streams. The flood risk increases for the foothills and mountains into Sunday.
Tomorrow:
Rain and storm chances will carry over into Sunday. Some dry time during the first part of the day ahead of afternoon downpours. There is a higher flood potential tomorrow due to more rainfall and an already saturated ground.
More Heat, Less Storms
As work our way into a new month, rain chances lower while the heat and humidity increases once again. Another heat wave develops for the first week of August as high temperatures return to the mid-90s.
This will prompt heat indices to also rise. Much of the week will feature feels-like temperatures above 100° with little rain to cool Carolinians off.
Drought Monitor
There are still a few dry spots across the piedmont, but drought conditions continue to improve across both states. The drier-than-normal conditions (D0, a precursor to moderate drought) dropped again to 47.7% in North Carolina and 22.4% in South Carolina.
