Forecast: Storms likely Monday afternoon and evening; flooding possible for Central Texas

AUSTIN, Texas — *A Flood Watch is in effect from 1 p.m. Monday through 7 a.m. Tuesday*

Good Monday morning! We’re back a stormy weather pattern for the start of the week. Widespread rain and storms are likely for Monday afternoon and evening as a frontal boundary slides into Central Texas. 

These storms could produce torrential rain, and will bring a flood threat to Central Texas. A Flood Watch will go into effect at 1 p.m. this afternoon, and will continue through at least 7 a.m. Tuesday morning. In addition to the flood threat, one or two storms could produce gusty winds as high as about 50 mph.

Another round of scattered storms is expected for Tuesday. Over the next 48 hours there is potential for totals of 1 to 3 inches across much of Central Texas with isolated higher amounts. Again, this could lead to flooding, especially with low water crossing and urban areas with poor drainage. 

Rain chances look a bit lower through the second half of the week, but scattered showers and storms will remain a possibility each day, especially Wednesday. The forecast will be drier with just isolated storms by the weekend with highs in the mid 90s. 

MONDAY:
Mostly cloudy with heavy rain and thunderstorms likely. Flood watch in effect from Monday afternoon through Tuesday morning due to excessive rain that could cause flooding.
