AUSTIN, Texas — *A Flood Watch is in effect from 1 p.m. Monday through 1 p.m. Wednesday for a majority of Central Texas. A Flash Flood Warning is in effect for Travis County until 7:15 p.m. Monday.*
Grab your umbrella and rain jacket, because you’re certainly going to need them this week!
We’re back with a stormy weather pattern for the start of the week. Widespread rain and storms are likely for Monday afternoon and evening as a frontal boundary slides into Central Texas. Scattered showers and storms could continue through the overnight hours.
While the overall severe weather threat associated with these storms is low, they could produce torrential rain and will bring a flood threat to Central Texas. A Flood Watch is in effect at currently through at least 1 p.m. Wednesday. Remember: turn around, don’t drown! In addition to the flood threat, one or two storms could produce gusty winds as high as about 50 mph.
Another round of scattered storms is expected for Tuesday. Over the next 48 hours, there is potential for totals of 1 to 3 inches across much of Central Texas with isolated higher amounts. Again, this could lead to flooding, especially with low water crossing and urban areas with poor drainage. Rain and cloud coverage will keep temperatures below average each afternoon with highs only reaching the upper 80s and lower 90s each day during the workweek.
Rain chances look a bit lower through the second half of the week, but scattered showers and storms will remain a possibility each day, especially Wednesday. The forecast will be drier with just isolated storms by the weekend with highs in the mid-90s.
MONDAY NIGHT:
Scattered to widespread showers and storms possible. Winds northeast at 5 to 10 mph with strong gusts possible within isolated storms.
LOW: 75
TUESDAY:
Cloudy with scattered to widespread showers and storms. Winds northeast at 5 to 10 mph with stronger gusts possible within isolated storms.
