After a prolonged dry spell, San Antonio is finally in for a rainy week ahead, according to the National Weather Service. “It’s like night and day,” says Mack Morris, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service (NWS).

According to the NWS’ seven-day forecast, every day this week has some potential for rain. Strong storms and flooding are possible in the early part of the week over Bexar County, though no official alerts have been put into effect at this time. A Flash Flood Watch is in effect Monday afternoon, August 22, through Tuesday morning, August 23, for the Hill Country and Austin Metro areas.

Confidence in heavy storms and flooding in San Antonio is strongest Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, August 24. On Monday afternoon after 1 p.m., there will be a 30% chance of showers and storms with highs around 96 degrees. Moving into the evening, chances of rain will be raised to 50%, with lows dipping into the mid 70s.

Tuesday will bring a 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms all day and into the night. High temperatures will hover around 90 degrees with lows in the mid-70s.

Wednesday will bring a 60% chance of rainfall during the day and 40% overnight, with similar temperatures as Tuesday. Thursday, August 25, Friday, August 26, Saturday, August 27, and Sunday, August 28, all have decent potential for storms and showers as well.

The NWS affirms that it’s been a while since we’ve seen anything close to decent rainfall over Bexar County.

“October rings a bell in terms of (when) we last had decent rainfall or any sort of river flooding,” says Morris. “Don’t cross a flooded road if you can’t tell how deep the water is.”
