AUSTIN, Texas — *A Flood Watch is in effect until 1 p.m. Wednesday for a majority of Central Texas.*
Austin-Camp Mabry recorded a record 3.73″ of rainfall yesterday. The heavy rain across the metro prompted a Flash Flood Warning, and caused many local creeks and streams to swell. Shoal Creek in Austin crested at over 16 feet, reaching major flood stage and one of the top 5 highest crests on record.
Today we are not expecting widespread rain and storms to the extent of yesterday, but we will still have scattered showers and storms that develop later this morning into the afternoon, and these could create additional flooding for areas that are already saturated from yesterday. High temperatures today reach the mid 80s to low 90s.
Even into Wednesday there could be scattered showers and storms around, but overall rain chances will drop off gradually through the second half of the week. By the weekend our rain chances are back down to 20% as afternoon highs return to the mid and upper 90s.
7 day rain totals could still exceed 1 to 2 inches south of Austin, with totals of a quarter inch to one inch for the northern half of the KVUE area.
