Forecast: Showers and storms continue moving south; flooding possible
Here are the latest updates from the KVUE Storm Team.
AUSTIN, Texas — *An Areal Flood Advisory is in effect for portions of Blanco, Burnet, Hays, Travis, and Williamson counties until 6 p.m. Saturday. Minor flooding is possible. An Areal Flood Advisory is in effect for portions of Bastrop, Caldwell, and Hays counties until 8 p.m. Saturday.*
We’re continuing to monitor scattered to widespread showers through the late afternoon and evening as a boundary moves south through Central Texas. The heaviest rain has moved south of Austin, but we’ll continue to track a 20-30% chance for showers through the evening.
For those going to the Texas season opener, it looks like the highest rain chances will be during the afternoon for tailgaters, but hopefully we start to trend drier during the evening with the kickoff set for 7 p.m. Nonetheless, it’s probably the safest bet to take the poncho along. Expect temperatures for the game to start in the lower 80s and drop into the mid to upper 70s by the end.
Sunday and Labor Day continue to trend drier with now only a 30% chance for rain on Sunday and a 20% chance on Monday. This should hopefully allow for smoother travel conditions. Highest chances for rain will be for the southern half of the KVUE viewing area. Due to lower rain chances, our temperatures could climb into the lower 90s each afternoon. We’ll hold on to warm and muggy conditions through next week along with isolated shower chances.
We trend drier by the middle of next week, but could still have some scattered storms around. 7-day rainfall totals will range from 0.75 to 2 or more inches for most of Central Texas.
