AUSTIN, Texas — You’ll want to keep your umbrella nearby as we track a wet week ahead for Central Texas.

Scattered showers and storms continue for the early morning hours on Tuesday, mostly west of I-35. Some slow-moving storms could create minor flooding or ponding on the roadways.

Tuesday afternoon will bring another chance for showers and storms as a weak low pressure system pushes through Central Texas. The Storm Prediction Center has placed the Coastal Plains under a “marginal” – level 1 out of 5 – risk for strong storms. There is also a “slight” risk for excessive rainfall in this region which could lead to flooding. Rain and cloud cover will keep temperatures cooler than Monday with highs in the mid-80s.

Another round of scattered showers arrives on Wednesday as the risk for excessive rainfall extends toward the I-35 corridor. We’ll continue to monitor the risk for flash flooding during this timeframe.

We could experience a slight lull in our rain chances on Thursday, with a 30% chance for scattered showers. Our highest rain chances of the week arrive for Mother’s Day weekend. Storms look likely by late Friday, and then both Saturday and Sunday bring widespread rain and storms.

The rain over the weekend could also bring the highest threat for flooding and severe weather. The Weather Prediction Center has placed the Hill Country in a rare “moderate” risk for excessive rainfall and the rest of the KVUE viewing area in a “slight” risk on Saturday. 7-day rainfall totals of 3″-6″+ are likely for just about all of Central Texas. The KVUE Weather team will keep a close eye on this evolving forecast.
