Severe weather causes power outages and concert delays in Raleigh

RALEIGH, N.C. — Severe weather moved across the Triangle Friday evening, causing traffic accidents, power outages, and delays.
Concertgoers at the Coastal Credit Union Music Park felt firsthand the effects of the storms due to organizers delaying the opening doors for the Dierks Bentley show.
As heavy rains poured in the area, hundreds were forced to evacuate the Red Hat Amphitheater moments before the show’s start due to extreme weather.
“It poured for a hot minute,” said Syd Ovitt, concertgoer from Greensboro.
Ovitt and others were caught in a heavy downpour inside Red Hat Amphitheater.
“It was just a little hectic to get out and they told us to go to parking decks to take cover,” Ovitt said. “We found cover in this overhead.”
Many outside the Triangle also witnessed damaging weather, with several reports of hail sightings in Morrisville and Youngsville.
After a while, the weather did clear up, allowing concertgoers to enjoy the rest of the outdoor concert.
John David Bulla says the weather delay was understandable.
“Definitely the right call for safety reasons,” said Bulla, “When lightning is involved-you’ve got to make sure people are safe.”
