AUSTIN, Texas — *A Red Flag Warning will be in effect from 1 p.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday for all of Central Texas except for Caldwell and Fayette counties, so please avoid any and all outdoor burning.*

Monday was the 45th day in a row of triple-digit heat in Austin, and we are now likely looking ahead to at least seven more days in a row as tropical rainfall stays mostly to our south on Tuesday.

Tropical Storm Harold will make landfall between Corpus Christi and Brownsville on Tuesday morning. This system will bring 2 to 4 inches of beneficial rain to much of South Texas, but here in the KVUE area, we’re left with just a 20% to 30% chance for showers and storms at best. Our rain chances begin in the late morning and extend through the early afternoon.

There’s a slight rain chance and a small “cool down,” but we still expect a high temperature of around 101 degrees in Austin on Tuesday. “Feels like” temperatures could still climb as high as 107 degrees. While most will miss out on rain entirely, the outer bands of tropical systems can occasionally produce brief tornadoes. The main concern for this stays south of the KVUE area.

Fire danger will be critical on Tuesday with a breezy east-southeast wind gusting as high as 30 miles per hour. A Red Flag Warning will be in effect for most of the KVUE viewing area, so please avoid any outdoor burning.

The heat quickly ramps back up for the middle and end of this week with high temperatures around 107 by Friday. Our forecast calls for small, isolated shower chances Friday into the beginning of next week, but most will remain dry.
