Corpus Christi Weathers Tropical Storm Harold

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – On Tuesday, August 22, Tropical Storm Harold made landfall through South Texas, impacting many city residents. City services have not been affected, and crews are diligently working to support the community.

City updates include:

• Beaches along the Gulf of Mexico remain clear of debris, and all access roads are open. However, some beach erosion has been reported at Zahn Road, Newport Pass, and Access Road 2.
• Citywide traffic signals have been repaired and are functioning correctly as of this morning. The Public Works Department will continue to address downed street signage throughout the week.
• Solid Waste Services continues its regular pick-up routes; no changes are expected.
  • J.C. Elliott Transfer Station brush center will be open to the public on Sunday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Services will be limited to brush drop-off only. The J.C. Elliott Transfer Station and brush operations are normally closed on Sundays. The transfer station brush center will be open Saturday during regular operation hours from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. All solid waste (residential or commercial) transported to the brush center must be secured and adequately covered with a tarp while being transported.
• Vector Control will place mosquito traps to monitor the population and activate their mosquito spraying plan as needed.

We want to remind residents that the city remains in Stage 1 drought restrictions, and water restrictions are still in effect. Today’s combined capacity of Lake Corpus Christi and Choke Canyon is 36.8%, with an expected increase in the next few days.

As of this morning, Oso Creek has reached its peak below flood stage and is now steadily declining.

American Electric Power (AEP) crews are restoring service to customers who lost power earlier yesterday due to heavy rains and winds associated with the storm. For power outage information and to make a report, visit www.aep.com.
