CHARLOTTE, N.C. —
Today
Clouds will increase later today which will eventually lead to developing storms. Highs should be in the low 90s (this will likely be the last day in the 90s over the next week and a half). Heat Index temperatures will be in the mid to upper 90s.
Severe storm potential: An approaching cold front will make storms likely into the evening. Storms will multiply fast with the best chance from 4 to 8 p.m.. Some areas could have up to 1-2 inches of rain while other see little to none. Damaging winds will be the highest threat with of course frequent lightning.
Friday
Highs will be in the upper 80s with low 90s expected east and southeast of the Charlotte area. A few showers and storms are possible during the afternoon and evening.
This Weekend:
Highs will be in the low to mid 80s under partly cloudy to mostly cloudy skies on Saturday and more sunshine on Sunday. Saturday has a 50% chance of showers and a few thunderstorms. Saturday right now has the highest potential for rain and storms. There’s a slight chance of showers Sunday.
The tropical look ahead:
Lee is set to become a major category 4 hurricane by tomorrow and even a category 5 by Friday evening. This storm still is trending to stay out in the Atlantic over the next week with not immediate landfall threats. Hurricane Lee will be the strongest hurricane of the 2023 Atlantic Hurricane Season.
