Minor flooding possible through Friday evening
The heaviest rain of the week is now behind us, but minor flooding still can’t be ruled out due to already saturated ground.

AUSTIN, Texas — Thursday brought tornado warnings and localized flooding to Central Texas. Parts of the KVUE area picked up in excess of 7 inches of rain, and Austin saw it’s highest single day rainfall amount in over a year.
The heavy rainfall from Thursday is now behind us; however, we are not done with rain just yet. While the heaviest rain of the week has ended, and we’re no longer expecting additional major flooding, there could still be isolated minor flooding on Friday.
After staying mainly dry overnight, additional showers and storms develop as early as Friday morning, and continue through Friday afternoon and even Friday evening. This rain will not be as widespread or as heavy as Thursday with the overall rain chance around 60 percent. However, given the already saturated soil, another quick inch or two of rain could create some minor, localized flooding through Friday.
The flood risk on Friday has increased for areas north and west of Austin. These areas have been placed under a level 2 out of 4 risk. After the rain on Friday, Saturday trends drier ahead of another chance for rain and minor flooding on Sunday and Monday when our strong cold front moves through.
This strong cold front arrives Sunday afternoon, and it will bring a nearly 40 degree drop in temperature in the span of just several hours. You can read more about the cold front here.
The KVUE Weather Team will continue to monitor this developing forecast.
