CHARLOTTE, N.C. — WCNC Charlotte is helping you stay Weather Aware as storms roll through the area Tuesday, which are predicted to bring strong wind gusts among other effects.

The WCNC Weather team forecasts the chances for strong-to-severe thunderstorms could include gusts up to 50 mph, flooding rains up to 4 inches, and even tornados in the Carolinas and Charlotte area. Even Gov. Roy Cooper declared a State of Emergency ahead of the severe weather threat.

While the worst of the weather is set to hit around noon and early Tuesday afternoon, some damage reports already came in before that timeframe.

The York County Sheriff’s Office advised drivers to avoid Lincoln Road near Meadow Road in York after a tree fell onto a power line and the road. As crews worked to clear the road, deputies shared a photo of the scene.

That would not be the only tree and power line down on Lincoln Road; minutes later, the sheriff’s office found another similar scene, with crews taking chainsaws to larger branches to clear the scene.

Deputies also found a tree branch that fell into the road along West Old Limestone Road.
