Texas flooding: Rainfall totals so far with more wet weather to come
Some areas in Central Texas have seen more than 12 inches of rain, mainly in Fayette County.
AUSTIN, Texas — As many of you have noticed, we’ve seen quite a bit of rain which has been heavy at times, especially in areas along and east of I-35. Here’s a breakdown of what we’ve seen, what we’re seeing now, and what is still left to come.

Past Rainfall
Many areas have seen rainfall totals over the past 72 hours of more than 12 inches of rain, especially in portions of Fayette County, where a gauge near the town of Muldoon reached 12 inches late Wednesday morning.
Flood Alerts
As a result of the heavy rain, there is a flood warning for the Colorado River around and south of La Grange, where water levels have risen nearly 22 feet in the past 24 hours. There’s also an Areal Flood Warning issued for areas that were previously under the Flash Flood Warning, with that warning expiring at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
As another result of the heavy rain, several smaller country roads have been rendered impassable due to the flooding, and as a result, Schulenburg ISD made the decision early Wednesday morning to cancel classes for the day. Several other school districts, including Giddings ISD, made the call to delay school by two hours.
Even more on the way
Not only have we seen impressive rainfall totals, but we’re expecting even more rain to impact those same areas of Central Texas.
Models indicate amounts up to an additional inch as we head into Wednesday night and Thursday morning. However, as we’ve seen a lot this week, the Hill Country, where we need the rain to fall for our Highland Lakes, has been largely left off of the rain parade, so do not expect much relief for our maligned lake levels.
