Saturday's concert at Lady Bird Lake moved indoors; SXSW shares contingency plans for possible severe weather
Friday’s events are going on rain or shine as scheduled, but the festival has made some adjustments to Saturday’s shows.
Some popular South by Southwest (SXSW) shows were set to be held outside Friday and Saturday, but things could change depending on the weather.
The SXSW Community Concerts at Lady Bird Lake Friday will be downtown near Auditorium Shores at 800 W. Riverside Dr.
Friday’s theme is Funk Not Fight and doors open at 2 p.m., while the shows run from 3-7 p.m.
SXSW had a change of venue for Saturday. The festival moved the shows from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Palm Door on 6th Street with doors opening at 1 p.m.
A representative with SXSW says the organization has been working all week with city meteorologists to keep track of the storms. Based on what they’ve seen, they plan to keep the shows scheduled for Friday come rain or shine.
“Obviously we’ll continue to monitor the weather. If it changes, we’ll make adjustments to our plans, but right now we are going to move on like we had already planned to do. All of our Billboard shows are going on. All of our shows in out outdoor venues are going to continue as planned,” SXSW vice president of event operations Tami Richter said.
While the show will go on, umbrellas aren’t allowed in their space.
“If we’re talking about the park spaces we’re asking people to maybe consider bringing a poncho or something to cover up so that we don’t block our lines of sight. Also potentially there could be a little bit of sharp objects, and we want to make sure that everybody is staying safe,” Richter said.
The name of the first band scheduled Friday is Riders Against The Storm. You can find the full line up here.
Depending on how bad the storm gets, they’ll adjust their plans as need be. Any changes will be posted to their social media pages.
