Storms could produce hail, damaging winds south of Charlotte
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A few severe thunderstorms are producing a threat of damaging winds, hail and lightning south of Charlotte.
WCNC Charlotte Brad Panovich wants communities, especially those in South Carolina, to stay Weather Aware for possible severe weather.
As a result of the wind and hail threat, the National Weather Service has issued severe thunderstorm warnings for York, Chester, Lancaster and Chesterfield counties. These storms are capable of producing 60 mph damaging winds and hail 1.25″ big.
The storm threat is primarily south of Charlotte. To help keep you aware of the weather threat in the hours ahead, a severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for counties including for Chester, Chesterfield, Lancaster and York counties in South Carolina and Anson, Richmond, Stanly and Union counties in North Carolina. A severe thunderstorm watch means storms are possible in the hours ahead. The severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for those locations until 9 p.m.
WCNC Charlotte Chief Meteorologist Brad Panovich is tracking the storms for any potential severe weather developments. As conditions warrant, Panovich will keep us updated on severe thunderstorm warnings which alert us to immediate severe weather danger.
