Tropical Storm Alberto leaves popular Padre Island bar under water
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — You can find one of the most popular places over bridge under the bridge, but after Tropical Storm Alberto, the Packery Bar and Grill is under the water!
It’s a hot spot for Island residents and visitors alike that they’ll be missing out on until the high tide recedes and that unwanted water makes its way out.
The severity of the flooding came as a surprise to bar staff who had never seen anything like it.
“I’d driven over the bridge a couple times and I could see that the water was in here,” Booking & Production Manager Kody Payne said, “But just coming in here, seeing the extent of it, seeing it full in the parking lot and everything, was a shock.”
Likely more surprised than anyone, a furry friend who frequents the bar!
“We were worried about J.J. the bar cat, but as soon as I got here earlier she popped out,” Payne said. “She didn’t look too happy, but she’s good now. We got her some food and water.”
Certainly not the best way for the local favorite to start off the first day of summer, but staff told 3NEWS they’ll be getting to work right away to get things ready, and more importantly, safe for customers.
