Here are the latest updates from the KVUE Weather Team.

AUSTIN, Texas — *A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Fayette County until further notice.

*A Flood Watch is in effect for Fayette, Lee, and Milam counties until Monday evening.

Hurricane Beryl made landfall near Matagorda, TX right before 4 a.m. Monday as a Category 1 hurricane. The core of Beryl will move inland during the day on Monday grazing the eastern portions of the KVUE area. This will bring tropical storm force wind gusts and heavy tropical rain to portions of Fayette, Lee, and Milam counties along and east of the Highway 77 corridor.

The core of Beryl will begin impacting Fayette County early Monday morning, and tropical weather impacts will ramp up through the rest of the morning into the early afternoon, mostly for areas east of I-35.

Beryl will bring wind gusts up to 50 mph to Fayette, Lee, and Milam counties. 30-40 mph wind gusts will extend as far west as the Austin metro and I-35 corridor through the afternoon on Monday.

The Highway 77 corridor will experience heavy tropical rainfall with 2 to 4 inches or more of rain possible. Unfortunately, there will be a sharp gradient on the dry side of the storm that sets up over Caldwell, Bastrop, and eastern Williamson counties. Rainfall will not be impressive, if any at all, for the I-35 corridor and points to the west.

The core of Beryl will be moving away from Milam County by the late afternoon on Monday, and the wind and lingering rain will mainly pull away by the evening. There is a small chance that a few storms could be pulled in on the back side of Beryl late Monday night into Tuesday morning. We’ll keep a close eye on future trends for this.
