Springfield Middle School to receive new mobile classrooms following tornado damage

Springfield Middle School in Wilson County has announced that it will soon receive temporary classrooms following extensive damage caused by an EF-3 tornado.

In a special meeting on Thursday, the Wilson County Board of Education approved a lease agreement with Mobile Modular for the temporary units. Each unit will contain eight classrooms and will be fully furnished.

The mobile units are expected to arrive on Sept. 30 and should be fully set up by mid-October. 

However, before students can be in the units, additional work must be completed, including constructing walkways and ramps, installing temporary power, and implementing fire safety measures.

The school said that the cost of the mobile units, including furniture, is approximately $660,000, which will be covered by insurance.

Due to the extensive damage caused by the tornado, the 6th and 7th grade wings of Springfield Middle School are currently unusable.

The reconstruction of these damaged areas is still being planned.

The school is accepting financial and in-kind donations until Sept. 15.
