Major Southeastern North Carolina roads closed due to storm damage

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Several major roads in southeastern North Carolina are closed indefinitely following significant damage caused by Monday’s storm, according to the NC Department of Transportation.
Heavy rainfall throughout the day has forced the closure of key routes, including portions of U.S. 17 and N.C. 211 in Brunswick County, as well as U.S. 74 in Columbus County. NCDOT officials are expecting additional closures as inland rains move downstream.
NCDOT crews are preparing to mobilize as soon as it is safe to make emergency repairs, particularly on N.C. 211, where bridges over Duke Energy Canal and Dutchman Creek were damaged by the storm.
The department is urging residents to avoid travel if possible and to exercise extreme caution if they must be on the roads.
“Drivers should never go around ‘road closed’ signs or attempt to drive through floodwaters,” the release emphasized.
For the latest updates on road conditions, residents can visit DriveNC.gov or follow NCDOT on social media for real-time travel information.
