Brunswick County issues curfew due to flooding

BOLIVIA, NC (WWAY) — Brunswick County has implemented a curfew for unincorporated areas effective immediately, following severe flooding caused by the storm. The curfew will remain in effect until Tuesday at 6 a.m., according to the county.

Residents and visitors in the county’s unincorporated regions are advised to stay home or seek shelter until the curfew is lifted and road conditions improve. The county has urged those in municipalities to check with their local government for any specific curfew or safety measures in their respective areas.

The severe weather has made several major highways and roads impassable. Drivers are advised to remain calm and adhere to directions from local law enforcement regarding road closures and traffic management.

To ensure safety during this period, Brunswick County recommends the following:

Avoid Travel: Stay off roads and highways until conditions improve. Monitor updates on road incidents through the North Carolina Department of Transportation’s DriveNC.gov map, which includes a Potential Tropical Cyclone filter. Additional updates are available on the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office’s social media channels and mobile app, as well as local municipal websites.

Obey Barricades: Do not attempt to move or drive around road barricades. Barricaded roads may still be hazardous, and flood waters could have caused hidden dangers.

Prepare an Emergency Plan: Have a plan in place to protect yourself, your family, and your pets. Consider special needs, such as medication and medical equipment. Ensure you have a communication plan to reconnect if separated.
