HOUSTON — A strong line of storms moved through Southeast Texas Thursday, bringing with it reports of tornadoes and plenty of video on social media showing them.
Wharton County
The first tornado was reported in Wharton County. The sheriff’s office posted about it Thursday afternoon. They said there were sightings at Loop 183 and County Road 428, FM 960 and FM 961 and in the area of Highway 59 and the El Campo truck stop heading northeast towards Pierce.
We spotted several viewer photos and videos, including this one that was sent in to KHOU 11 by Taylor Hudson. He said this video was shot about a mile south of FM 960.
Reporter Matt Dougherty was reporting from Wharton County for KHOU 11 News at 6. He was between El Campo and the Pierce Ranch off Highway 59. He noticed sheet metal scattered all along farmland there. Wooden rafters from the roof were also broken in the storm. He reported on another barn nearby that had its roof blown off. Fortunately, there have not been reports of injuries.
Here’s another look at the video from the storm near El Campo.
Harris County
A home was damaged in southwest Harris County.
A United States Postal Service truck was toppled in the high winds on the same street.
Later in the afternoon, there were sightings around Lake Houston and in the Atascocita area. Here is the video from our newscast describing it.
Liberty County
And in Liberty County, there were multiple reports of tornadoes, including this video from Kelly.
A couple in their 80s was uninjured after two trees fell onto their home in the Cypress Lakes subdivision in Liberty County. They had just left the room when the storm toppled the trees. Neighbors gathered to cut the tree and help the couple.
