Braving snow: Hurricanes fans gear up for game night at Lenovo Center despite wintry mix
Friday night’s Hurricanes game will go on despite the weather, and dedicated fans are ready to cheer on their team.
If you’re planning to attend, don’t forget to bring a snow brush or ice scraper for your car. Otherwise, you might end up using your sleeve to clear your windshield after the game.
While many fans aren’t fazed by the cold, the bigger concern is the hazardous driving conditions expected after the game.
By 4:30 p.m., a wintry mix had begun falling at Lenovo Center. Although nothing was sticking then, crews were hard at work. Trucks equipped with scrapers and salt spreaders prepared the area to ensure it’s safe for fans.
Canes President Don Waddell explained the decision to proceed with the game, noting that since the Vancouver Canucks are already in town, the game must go on.
The atmosphere is quite different from warmer pregame days when fans tailgate and grill outside.
Even so, WRAL News found a few passionate Canes fans enjoying the snowy conditions in the parking lot, saying the weather is no match for their excitement about the game.
Crews continue working to keep parking lots and walkways safe for fans arriving and departing.
The puck drops at 7 p.m., and with the game expected to last about three hours, fans are optimistic about making it home safely afterward.
