San Antonio-based H-E-B donates $1 million, sends supplies to victims of California wildfires

H-E-B has donated supplies and money to victims of natural disasters in the past.

San Antonio-based grocery store chain H-E-B – recently ranked the best grocery store in the nation – is sending aid and supplies to folks affected by the California wildfires.

H-E-B is donating $1 million to nonprofits to help support the victims of the wildfires in Southern California. The San Antonio-based company is also sending six truckloads of supplies, including water, food, masks and hygiene kits, to the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, officials told KENS 5.

“We will continue to closely monitor the situation and additional opportunities to provide support,” H-E-B said in a statement.

The wildfires in Los Angeles have killed at least 27 people, destroyed more than 12,300 structures and scorched nearly 40,000 acres since igniting more than a week ago, according to NBC News.

Even so, H-E-B is no stranger to helping folks in need.

The food store spent $6 million in disaster relief efforts in 2017 following Hurricane Harvey, with H-E-B Chairman Charles Butt donating another $5 million of his personal bank account to hurricane relief efforts, according to the grocery store chain’s website.

H-E-B also donated more than $5 million in support of folks affected by the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 and sent H-E-B mobile aid kitchens to areas affected by Hurricane Laura that same year.
