Wildfire near Johnson City nearly fully contained
Officials said visibility was less than a mile when they first arrived at the fire, with dust and winds making firefighting difficult.
BLANCO COUNTY, Texas — Crews continue working to contain a wildfire west of Johnson City that started on Tuesday afternoon.
The Blanco County Sheriff’s Office reported the large fire near Klett Ranch Road around 4 p.m. before crews were able to stop the fire’s progress.
As of Wednesday at 1 p.m., the Texas A&M Forest Service reported the fire was more than 100 acres and 95% contained as crews made good progress in building a containment line around the perimeter.
More than 30 units from multiple agencies responded to the scene as approximately 100 personnel worked to cut a containment line around the fire.
Officials also said that visibility was less than a mile when they first arrived at the fire with dust and wind gusts making firefighting difficult.
“Fire weather right now is extreme. These are unprecedented conditions. People need to be very cognizant – obviously no controlled burning and making sure they’re doing everything to reduce their wildfire risk,” Ben Oakley, the Blanco County chief of fire and EMS, said.
Oakley said it is important for everyone to reduce their wildfire risk and not burn anything. Meanwhile, the sheriff’s office, along with Johnson City police, said there are no evacuations or injuries.
