Houston-area power outages grow to over 2.5 million after Hurricane Beryl made landfall

HOUSTON — Strong storms knocked out power to customers in the Greater Houston area.

At the outage’s peak, more than 2.2 million CenterPoint customers are without power.

At noon Monday., Entergy reported over 200,000 customers without power, mostly in Montgomery, Walker, Liberty and Jefferson counties. The entire Bolivar Peninsula is without power, according to Entergy. 

Seventeen Entergy substations lost power. 

Texas New Mexico Power reported over 100,000 customers without power at 1:45 p.m. Monday.

If storms are in the forecast, make sure your phone and other devices are charged in advance. Portable chargers are also available for a wide range of prices and can be a big help during an extended outage. 

If you’re using a generator, be sure you don’t use it indoors because it can cause carbon monoxide poisoning.
