BELVILLE, NC (WWAY) — We have new details on a story WWAY brought you Monday night concerning flooding in Belville following Tropical Storm Debby.

On Tuesday, the NC Department of Transportation and Town of Belville began working to address flooded areas within the community.

Flooding has impacted several neighborhoods, including Woodridge, River Ridge, and Olde Towne. Currently, NCDOT crews are on-site at the intersection of River Birch Ridge Court and Two Pine Road, where they are working to alleviate the flooding caused by the storm’s downpour.

“Their swift response and continued presence in our community has been crucial in mitigating further damage and ensuring the safety of our residents,” said Belville Mayor Mike Allen. “We want to express our deep gratitude for the prompt and dedicated efforts of the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) and the town’s contractors, WithersRavenel and Coastal Exterior Solutions.”

Mayor Allen emphasized that the Town of Belville remains committed to working closely with NCDOT and other agencies to provide ongoing support to residents and property owners affected by the flooding.

“We remain committed to the recovery and restoration of our community and will provide updates as further progress is made. We’d also like to thank all our partners and community members for their resilience and cooperation during this challenging time,” Allen added.

Trevor Carroll, NCDOT Deputy Division 3 Engineer, also expressed his department’s commitment to assisting Belville. “We’re happy to assist the Town of Belville in abatement efforts and are eager to see this work benefit the residents of Belville and Northern Brunswick County,” Carroll said.

In addition to the immediate response, the Town of Belville is continuing its work on a stormwater feasibility study to identify ways to improve responses to severe weather and mitigate the effects of major storms like Debby in the future.
