Live Helene updates: Tornado warnings in the Triad
WFMY News 2 has the latest on the storm’s impact in the Triad and the devastating flooding in the mountains.
GREENSBORO, N.C. — Tropical Storm Helene is barreling through the Carolinas, pounding the western part of our state with major flooding. We’ve got you covered with the latest updates on the storm.
LIVE UPDATES:
2:01 p.m.: Some areas in the mountains have seen almost 20 inches of rain since Monday.
1:43 p.m.: There is major flooding and debris flowing through Boone.
1:14 p.m.: Part of Elkin will flood.
12:18 p.m.: Wilkesboro is experiencing lots of flooding from Helene and there are downed power lines in Asheville.
11:37 a.m.: Tree down in Gibsonville
11:33 a.m.: App State’s home football game against Liberty University scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 28 has been canceled. Boone and surrounding areas are experiencing high amounts of flooding.
11:20 a.m.: A Tornado Warning issued for Caswell County.
11:10 a.m.: Power outages across the Triad
New Garden area is without power, causing multiple traffic lights out.
West Wendover near South Holden Road is without power. Traffic lights are out, and it extends to Ashland as well.
TRIAD OUTAGES
11:07 a.m.: Thousands of outages across the state.
10:48 a.m.: Randolph County EMS says several trees and powerlines are down. There were a couple of wrecks in the area, but no injuries or EMS calls related to the storm.
10:46 a.m.: Tornado Warning issued in Rockingham County.
10:43 a.m.: The Swannanoa River has flooded into the road near Biltmore Village in Asheville.
10:38 a.m.: Gov. Roy Cooper is expected to share more updates about Helene at 11 a.m.
10:19 a.m.: Tornado Warning issued for Rockingham County.
10:12 a.m.: Heavy rain in Boone, NC is causing waters to rise.
10:05 a.m. — Meteorologist Christian Morgan has a live update on Helene track and conditions in the Carolinas.
9:44 a.m.: Tornado Warning issued for Randolph County.
9 a.m.: Incredible video shows a car being swept away in the floodwaters in Asheville, NC.
