Houston Cougars take on A&M Aggies in charity exhibition game supporting Hurricane Beryl relief
The University of Houston said this will be the first time the teams play in a preseason exhibition game while both are ranked.
HOUSTON — Two of the top college basketball teams in the country will face off Sunday in an exhibition game to raise funds for Hurricane Beryl relief efforts.
The No. 4 Houston Cougars will take on the No. 13 Texas A&M Aggies at the Fertitta Center on October 27. Tip off is at 4 p.m. Tickets for the game are $35.
The two faced off in last season’s NCAA Tournament in the Round of 32, with the Cougars coming out on top to advance to the Sweet 16. The Coogs staved off the Aggies in a 100-95 overtime win. The University of Houston said this will be the first time the teams play in a preseason exhibition game while both are ranked.
According to UH, a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Greater Houston Disaster Alliance‘s Hurricane Beryl Recovery Fund, which benefits residents impacted by the storm with financial assistance and home repairs. Separate from the game, they said the fund has already raised nearly $6 million to help residents in the Greater Houston area.
The Cougars and Aggies first played in the 1946-47 season and have since played 87 times. The Coogs have a good history against the Aggies, winning 55 of the 87 matchups.
