KINGS MOUNTAIN, N.C. — Fire crews are battling a 650-acre wildfire at Crowders Mountain State Park, with the blaze now 75% contained, according to the North Carolina Forest Service.

The U.S. Forest Service and multiple agencies have been working throughout the day to contain the fire, according to Crowders Mountain Fire & Rescue. Operations have created several roadside fires in the surrounding area.

Officials say the fire is largely under control as of Sunday night, with crews planning to monitor the situation overnight. Additional firefighting personnel are expected to arrive on Monday to assist with containment efforts.

Authorities are urging the public to avoid the area, specifically for sightseeing purposes, as additional traffic could interfere with emergency operations.

Local residents may encounter fire crews working along roadsides and are asked to exercise caution when driving through the area to ensure worker safety.

The cause of the fire has not been released.
