Hurricanes building street hockey rinks in Apex
Apex, N.C. — The Carolina Hurricanes are working to grow hockey in the Triangle.
The team and the NHL are building two street hockey rinks at Apex Community Park. Construction is underway.
The project is a culmination of work between the team and the NHL’s Industry Growth Fund, through which $550,000 was provided to fund the project.
“Participation in hockey is growing exponentially in the Triangle and across North Carolina,” said Hurricanes president Doug Warf. “This project significantly enhances accessibility by providing another facility where kids and adults can try or compete in our sport.”
The rinks will be 160-by-75-feet and one will be able to offer basketball and futsal as well. A release says the rinks will be open for programming this spring.
