Wildfire burning in northwest Matagorda County

A fire was burning near Midfield, Texas, at 65 acres as of Tuesday afternoon.

MIDFIELD, Texas — A wildfire in northwest Matagorda County warranted a large response as fire crews battled high winds Tuesday afternoon.

Matagorda County Emergency Operations Center said the fire had burned 65 acres and was 0% contained as of 4:27 p.m.

No structures were burned and no injuries were reported as of 5 p.m.

The fire was west of Midfield, Texas. Smoke from the fire was seen on radar.

FM 111 was closed at County Road 454 for firefighting efforts.

Seven volunteer fire departments were working to contain the fire.

The region was under a Red Flag Warning on Tuesday, meaning high winds were creating a high fire danger.

People were asked to avoid burning or any activity that could spark a fire.
